Forgiveness Step Two
When forgiving someone, it’s important to talk about what happened. The one who’s hurt you should accept responsibility for their actions and apologize. And most importantly, you should appreciate that. Don’t use their vulnerability in accepting responsibility as leverage to continue to beat them down (ex. "Yeah, you should be sorry. You did this and this and this to me. You’re the worst.”). If they say they’re sorry, there is no need to beat a dead horse. This is their time to realize their mistakes, and for you both to talk about how you can move on and grow. Whether moving on means moving forward, or moving away from each other. Both can be done healthfully. -
