TW: I am not saying everyone here who says they have trauma is making it up or is misinformed. I’m putting it out there that there are people who are misinformed in this generation.

Today, I think just about everyone claims to have “trauma” and to me, that’s a little frustrating because it seems like “trauma” is a word people use for “sad event in their life.” But not every sad event is traumatizing. And if you take what happened in that event and learn from it, that’s not because you were “traumatized.” That’s just learning life skills. Just because you realize you can’t trust people as much as you thought you could doesn’t mean you are traumatized by it. Being traumatized is when a severe event takes place and it mentally takes a toll on you the rest of your life because you get sudden triggers or thoughts of that event. That’s when you know you’ve been traumatized. And not being “reminded of a sad event” or “thinking back and being sad” is not being traumatized. Trauma is serious. It is not something 99% of the world has. A sad portion of people do, but not everyone. Baggage and sadness =/= trauma. Trauma could be baggage and sadness but not all is trauma. And it’s important people know the difference. When people mislabel what they’re specifically dealing with (trauma, ptsd, or a mental disorder of any kind), it kind of takes away from people who actually have those issues. And I know of people who actually have trauma, actually have ptsd, and actually have a mental disorder. So when people mis-describe their problems like that, it makes me a little upset. Before you start saying you have ptsd, maybe look up what it even is. Because I don’t think a lot of people have the true meaning of ptsd when they claim they have it.

Now, I am not saying you should downplay your problems. I understand why people say severe words to describe their life. To some people, those words are the only things that get the message across that someone’s dealing with something important.

@Duchess I honestly agree with most everything said here. Trauma is a very serious thing and not to downplay anyone’s pain as anyone can all be traumatized in a different way. I was physically abused by my now ex. Am I hurt? Yes. Am I scared of that shit? Yes. And I self conscious and stuff like that? Yes. But I’m not traumatized. Trauma is a very serious thing and I’ve seen trauma. From multiple people. It’s a very scary thing. Something I hope nobody has to go through and for the ones who do. I hope you can seek proper help. I’m always here to talk for whoever needs it and I can help you get a professional therapist if you need it

@Duchess yeah to be honest this is why i literally steer away from trauma when it comes to my childhood, because my childhood was just depressing and scary and you had to always be on your toes about what would happen next, so i really do steer away from that word as to not invalidate or over validate anything, even if something does classify as trauma I still don’t like to think of it as it as to be cautious.
