So, I'm terrified of bees and wasps right.

And I’m trying to tell my dad that I really don’t want to leave the house to go get the mail because I just got greeted by a wasp at the front door and he yelled at me instead of just letting me stay inside until we had to go to the eye doctors.
And he just yelled at me again when I was trying to explain my horrible fear of wasps and called it weird and I was literally on the verge of tears -

Tell him to go get milk

@HEXER :I I don’t like parents who dismiss their child. I hear this story at least once a week and it gets me every time. Does he do this often? It seems like he just doesn’t care.
-
@Duchess yeah he does this with my other fears. Like I’m terrified of the sky, and I’m terrified of being alone and I have a fear of mold. But everytime I bring up these fears, it’s always a case of "Stop making up fears. Stop being dramatic. Stop acting like this. No, you don’t get to be scared of so and so… " Etc. :(
-
@HEXER D: What? That’s terrible. It’s a no-brainer that no one should be invalidating fears like that. If it’s a fear, it’s a fear. It’s not like you can say “Sorry, I’ll just stop being afraid of that.” You can’t stop fear. It just happens. You can train yourself to no be afraid by facing your fear, but you shouldn’t have to do that just to please someone, or because you’re inconveniencing your dad with being afraid. That’s just terrible. Sadly, I bet even if you did face your fears, your dad would probably just use that as “proof” that you weren’t afraid in the first place. Correct me if I’m wrong.
-
@Duchess there’s absolutely nothing to correct, you got it all down. :( Which is sad cause it’s all true. Especially the part where if I faced it it wouldn’t be an issue. Like I’ve been on high floors before, still afraid of heights. I’ve gotten stung by bees 4 times, and once by a hornet and another time by a wasp. I have reason to be afraid. I know how much it hurts and they’re terrifying. Space is an empty endless horrifying cold dark deep void. And certain patterns and shapes make me feel disgusting and make me shake intensely and lock up. I have reason for all of these. But if I tried to explain any of it, he would just say that I’m bullshitting.

@HEXER Some people don’t believe what they don’t understand fully. Or understand at all. As your father, he should trust you. You just want to be believed. Maybe not even so much that people get it, but that they believe you. And I wish he did. I believe you. I have this strange fear of tall things. I would legit get the willies from looking at a tall tree lol. Explaining things might seem strange to an outside perspective, but that doesn’t make it any less valid.
