Thoughts
While it’s easy to let unkind things slip into your mind, it’s just as easy to let them out of your mouth. Thinking unkind things about someone is natural, and just something the human brain does. We all have opinions, and sometimes we let them influence us negatively. No one is perfect, and that’s something we always remind ourselves of. But in the imperfection of humanity, we can work with that. We can try to look at the positive sides of situations, things, and people. Maybe you despise what someone does, but you don’t have to think of someone so poorly to the point of utter hate. But you also don’t have to like everyone to think better about a person. Just thinking one positive thing about someone can bring peace to yourself. And bringing peace of mind about a person is simply doing yourself a generous thing. There was this one guy I knew in highschool that I absolutely couldn’t stand. He was loud, only talked about himself, and told the class the same stories over and over. It got annoying over time. I tried to ignore him, but it didn’t help that he sat in the middle of the classroom. I got so sick of feeling tired of going to that class that I tried thinking about what good things this guy did. I started to see something in him that I wouldn’t have otherwise considered. I realized that he was just trying to be funny and make people laugh. And thinking about how much he just wanted to make people laugh made me actually admire him, as I really love comedy. Funnily enough, I actually saw him recently volunteering for local poll elections, so it really made me happy seeing him trying to help the community. Though it might not matter now, I’m glad I hadn’t still thought of him as that one annoying guy.
