because of a lack of jobs, a growing gap between the rich and poor, and a reduction in spending because of the fear of chickens.

Why would it be caused by chickens you may ask? Well, if chickens suddenly where built like that, the egg industry would likely collapse, which would mean no more eggs, and no more chickens being hatched!
Which also means
no eggs for breakfast ,
no more eggs for baking ,
and no chicken wings for that Friday night takeout at KFC or Popeyes
