That is the most responsible thing you could have done. You realised what you did wrong, gave it some time (I suppose) to settle, and then you reached out to make it right. Sure, they may not forgive you, that is up to them, but the fact that you did something means quite a bunch! You did something a whole lot of people refuse to do, and it just certifies that you are more mature than even 90% of adults nowadays. Fingers crossed your apology is accepted and you can return to neutral terms, at the very least.
Mind you, it takes a lot of courage to do something like this. You are very much on the track of improvement.
