I have something called GPN, which is what I generally call it because it’s hard to remember what it’s actually called. I looked it up, and this is what I have and why I get stabbing pains and can’t breathe.
Glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN) is a rare condition that affects the glossopharyngeal nerve, which lies deep within the neck. GPN causes episodes of severe stabbing pain in the throat, tongue and ears. These excruciating bouts last anywhere from several seconds to a few minutes.
Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is generally caused by a small blood vessel that presses on the nerves as they exit the brainstem. This condition is caused by irritation of the ninth cranial nerve by a blood vessel. -
