My sister was lowkey dating someone at my church for about a year and my parents had just found out about it back in june. Well it has now been over 6 months, and I kid you not, she has been talking about how bad of a guy he was almost every single day since they broke up. My family has been bringing it up too, enabling her to not let go, and today I snapped about it. I feel very justified, and this isnt the first I told her it’s annoying. I told her months ago, it’s annoying. She has the audacity to get mad at me and now is being dramatic when she brings up her ex’s name “OHH didnt mean to bring up that name.” Cmon, woman up or something. I didnt care the first few months, but it’s now getting out of hand. The comments are actually pretty cruel. Stuff like “I wish you could beat him up” and just the most random cruel things just because he broke up with her. And now my entire family is convinced the ex is a narcissist. It’s honestly disgusting how you could go from liking someone to coming up with the most random insults just to make yourself feel better about getting rejected/dumped. Funny part is, he broke up with her because my parents didnt allow her to go on dates with him, and didnt allow them to even hold hands. My mom even told my 12 year old (at the time) brother to make sure they didnt stand next to eachother.

The lesson of my story here is, if you break up with someone and they’re that bad of a person that you need to talk about it every day, maybe seek therapy or help from a friend. If they werent that bad of a person, consider letting it go at some point. Trying to come up with reasons to not like that person is just childish. You liked someone. You cant undo how you felt. So you dont just go back and say “Well i didnt like them that much anyways.” If that’s the case, either you’re lying to yourself, or you lied to the person you were dating. Dont just go around throwing insults about them. It only makes you look like the loser, honestly.

Yea, kids these days are just… yeah yk what i mean, i kind of get why parents say “It was so good back then in the early 2000s” sometimes.

glad my sister isn’t like this
she’s been through breakups more times than i can count, and usually she forgets about her toxic partner within a few days
she does bring them up with her friends though, but only sometimes, but even then she isn’t as passive-aggressive about it

i’m sorry you have to deal with the prospect of people bringing up the same person over and over again

the problem is when you keep bringing up what a toxic person did, you start tonlook like the bad guy. and i get being mad but dude calling someone a narcissist is crazy

@A38 Yeaah. I think that part that makes me the most mad is that my entire family is on board to talk about them on the daily. Its like im the only person who thinks it isnt normal to be still so caught up on someone over 6 months ago.

@finneass Yeah. Its utterly hilarious to me that they all said the ex was a narcissist. They did all their “research” and whatnot but I can just tell they were just looking for things on the narcissist list that fit him just to say hes a narcissist. Aka, more reason to make my sister feel better about herself, smh
