Okay, WTF is leap day/year?

So once in every 4 years, a day is added to February to keep in sync with the Earth’s rotation around the sun, which takes Around 365.25 days. That means if there was no leap day, the seasons would shift ever so slightly so that in a few decades, summer is in december while winter in august.

@A38 Now, it isn’t exactly 365.25 days, that’s too many, so in comes the century clause that states every year that ends with 100 isn’t a leap year, that means 1900 and 1800 weren’t leap years. But that leaves it ever too short, so another clause was added that if a year is divisible by 400 then it is a leap year. So while 1800 and 1900 weren’t leap years, 2000 was.
