went up the hill
to fetch a pail of water
when jack came down
he smiled then frowned
as he’d been one of the children for slaughter.

and then jill
went to the well
atop the hill
to dip the pail to water
when she came down
she smiled then frowned
as she thought that jack had forgot her.
