REAL
i was gonna post a topic yesterday but then i found some tea:] -
@Duchess
I might get banned for dis but ok hold on.
I don’t believe some people on here are actually depressed.
They’re just sad.
They do realize to be actually depressed you need to be diagnosed with depression?
They might FEEL depressed but that’s just long term sadness, depression is something else, and they don’t get that, and they don’t realize they’re taking the attention away from, people who have actually been diagnosed with depression.
And most of the time they exaggerate everything and then they’re like my life sucks, my life is so bad I hate my life, when it’s the smallest thing in the world bro. People are dying and you’re sad because your love life is failing? You’re sad because your friend did something.?
Yeah, that’s not depression, depression is something else.
And I feel like people should educate themselves about things like this. -
@7o2_an-a
I do think to an extent a lot of people joke about small things being depressing, but I could be wrong. I used to joke like that all the time, so I cant really say tbh. Not to say its good to joke about it. I agree though, people do overexaggerate on the internet in general. It makes it hard for people who are actually depressed to find an audience because “everyone” is depressed.
that being said, the diagnosis for depression isn’t what makes you depressed. You can be depressed without diagnosis, but you cant say you’re depressed without diagnosis, which I think was your point anyways lol. -
@7o2_an-a Yeah, that’s true. Sadness doesnt always equal depression. I’m glad you say that, honestly. Thing is, people also feel like they’re getting devalued for being told they’re not actually depressed, and it’s just sadness. Depression is a seemingly unescapable cave of sorrow that effects you daily for a period of time. NOT like how people use the term today. I think people use the word “trauma” in the same way.

So true.

Also so true. People do end up having undiagnosed depression, but with that being said, being “depressed” for two days wouldn’t mean you have an undiagnosed depression. I know people on the internet overuse the word. I take people too seriously online, but at the same time, I feel like everyone else doesn’t take things seriously enough. Especially when there are real depressed people online and it starts to look less serious for them to admit they’re depressed. That’s the saddest part.

@MrTree
Yeah lol, I know that the diagnosis isn’t what makes you depressed, (I mean that’s kind of obvious😅) ;I was gonna say what depression is from as far as my knowledge on depression but I’d get shit on if I got one thing wrong. That aside, yeah I meant to say you can’t just go around saying you’re depressed over a small incident, or saying your life sucks, or it’s the worst because there’s always someone else going through worse, yet they’re silent and going through it alone. I’m not saying it’s wrong to voice your problems, that’s great, but don’t make it seem like your life is worse than every body else’s life. That’s just not fair and I’ve realized that in recent years, not even just here but any social media or anywhere honestly people have made it in a way a trend to turn your ‘depression’ into a competition Smd that’s just so fucked up… -
@Duchess I like how you guys are correcting me in the places I am wrong, thank you for that. We are all learning day by day, including me, but in this case I know that depression may be just 2 days or maybe even just a few hours because that’s how depression is. It goes away and comes back, it plays with you like a mind game, and I know this because a friend of mine has depression, and she is that exact way.
But in no way am I saying YOU’RE NOT DEPRESSED BECAUSE (etc.)
Im just saying don’t overuse it, it’s discrediting people who actually suffer with it.That being said, please correct me or add on to anything I’ve said.
-
ill be honest, im not ready anything of this long text but i agree

This is how online conversation should always be lol. Conversation in general should be a fair back and forth without people getting mad lol.
I know what you mean too, depression comes in waves of sadness.I may be wrong on this as well, but isnt it like, an overarching condition, but that effects you in waves? Like you’re depressed, but you’re only “feelilng” depressed at certain times. Yknow what I mean? I might be wrong on this.
-
@MrTree it depends, some people have it come and go, in short periods of time, some people have it for long periods of time, it leaves, they feel better it comes back and it hits you just like that, and some people just have it without following any patterns, but yeah, that’s as far as I know. The way I’d describe depression itself though is just always being tired, doing simple tasks yet it feels so difficult, not being able to escape this feeling of sadness, always feeling down without any particular reason, etc.

I know what you mean too, depression comes in waves of sadness.Yeah, I know some people don’t see it that way though, and I used to be that way too, I’d get annoyed whenever people corrected me but that’s growth. Whenever people correct you it’s not to be rude, most of the time they’re just trying to show you their point of view, or they’re just trying to help you understand something, and now looking back on it I wasn’t the brightest whenever I’d get offended at people correcting me.
