Halloween Poem: The Raven and the Bat

- Start poem
Once upon a hallow’s night
with Goblins green and Ghouls so white
A Bat went flying on the cold night sky, his wings carrying him low and highWhen all of a sudden, he heard such a noise; could it be the rushing wind, or the neighborhood boys?
No, no, it just couldnt be! the wind is so silent, and there are no boys that the bat can seePerhaps it is the black cats, all huddled on the fence
But the bat sees none, it doesnt make sense! After flying so long, he stopped in a pumpkin patch
only then did he discover the sound he would soon catchabove a stone-marked grave, surrounded by bones
was a mysterious creature, with feet as grey as stonesHer feathers were black, like the night itself
Her eyes a fiery orange, like the candle-lights on a bookshelfThis creature, he concluded, was someone who was well secluded
This creature within this spooky haven, was a big, black raven!“Hello! hello, miss raven, a pleasure to meet you!” said the bat, who smiled politely, causing the raven to coo
“Hello to you too, small little bat!” replied the raven “tell me, what brings you to my safe haven?”
The bat paused, and with a little flap, he flew over to the raven, perching on her lap
the reason for my visit, raven of the night, is because your song gives me so much fright!"
"but though you sit amongst the bones of the dead, your visage is so pleasant to my eyes of red!Now the Raven was taken aback, as she slowly begins to smile. It seemed that she found a friend, who could stay a while
“your words flatter me, little bat friend!” says the raven as she picks up a rotten vine with a crooked bend
“if you enjoy my visage and my eyes of fire, come! we shall soar to great heights ever higher!
When we cast shadows in the sky, the people will be left with an awestruck eye!”Now every Halloween’s night, when the moon is full, when the stars become dim, and oh so very dull
If you listen closely with a listening ear, you will catch a duet of spooky sounds, THIS you will hear! It’s not the wind, and its not a black cat
It is the spooky, scary song, of the Raven and the Bat!"- End poem
