A loud whistle or a comment of a sexual nature made by a man to a passing woman

Now, while it isn’t always made by a man to a woman, it usually is. I can attest to this.
I walk nearly every night across the dyke (flood wall) in my town.
It is a common hangout spot for teens and adults alike.
I never used to get catcalled, because I would walk during the summer nights.
However, just before school started up (and now during), there have been more people out.
I used to not have to carry much on my walks. I would carry my phone and a flashlight.
I always dress the same: long pants (sweatpants/pajama pants) and a hoodie over my shirt.
Now that more and more people are out, I have to carry a pocket knife.
I carry my father’s pocket knife. On walks. Because I have had at least 15 different high school boys or men try to talk to me or catcall me.
If I have my earbuds on, I have to leave one out, so that I can hear if someone tries to follow me or talk to me.

I know that if I ever get these boy’s names and brought it up to school administration, they wouldn’t do anything. After all, they were only saying things like: “Stay safe out there, sweetheart!” or “You look nice tonight!” I never asked them to say anything, and they make me uncomfortable.

I clearly remember walking by this group this one time, and they said “hi,” but that was it. Next thin I know, I see a long shadow being cast from the lights behind me. I turn around, and it was one of the boys. He had left his group, and began to slowly follow me. I immediately started walking backwards, facing and watching him, and I had my camera open, and I was ready to grab my knife if the need arose.

If you do this: FUCKING STOP. THIS SHIT ISN’T CUTE. I DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOUR INTENTIONS ARE, YOU MAKE ME FEEL UNSAFE.

Like, what the hell makes them think that making someone feel unsafe or uncomfortable is just a “harmless” joke? It’s not always playful, it’s creepy as fuck. They need to get their heads out of their asses and realize that their ‘compliments’ are actually harassment. Enough is enough.
