Breathing or rapid movements (such as heartbeats and laughter) can make a springlock fail. The springlock pierces your skin, feeling like getting stabbed by a large needle. The movement of the springlock sets off other springlocks in a domino effect, piercing every bit of skin on your body.
We know that William Afton was shown in Fnaf 3 to have been “killed” to the springlock failures in the Spring Bonnie suit. Yet, he survived and goes around killing the night guard like it is nobody’s business.
Moisture, heavy breathing and hitting an object can activate the springlocks, pushing the animatronic parts back to their former position thus killing the person inside.
A spring-lock suit is a bit of a psuedo-scientific thing and is not really possible in real life and even impractical. If somebody wants to make a robotic suit that can also serve as a suit, there are plenty of other methods that do not involve impaling organs or any of that jazz.
However, the springlocks on the endoskeleton can fail. This can be triggered with moisture or extreme physical trauma or movement. When this happens, a single springlock can trigger a failure or all of the springlocks can go off at once.
Afton hid in the Spring Bonnie suit, but the spring-lock mechanisms within the suit activated, crushing his body and causing him to die a slow and gruesome death. Just like the children he murdered, Afton’s soul refused to rest and possessed the Spring Bonnie suit, turning him into Springtrap.
Would it have the same effect as in Five Nights at Freddy’s? Springlock suits, such as those in Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, are from an engineering perspective an absolutely terrible idea, and consequently do not exist. The first springlocks that go off are the head, meaning you feel a sharp pain before death. The springlocks go off somewhere else before the head, leaving you in excruciating pain until the springlocks go off at the head.
The springlocks holding it back are also very dangerous and will slice through your neck and stomach making it impossible to scream for help, you are left to die in the suit. It is painful, there are spikes impaling your body in every place and it will take a long time for you to die.
