So, Iâve noticed that a lot of the population of [insert my high schools name] have an ad hominem problem. For context, an ad hominem is attacking a personâs character instead of their argument. This is a logical fallacy and makes your argument seem weak and can make your argument seem as it you need insults in order to win an argument. Instead of this, why donât we try sticking to the point in an argument? Calling someone an idiot isnât gonna make you right, and you have to take accountability for when youâre wrong. By using insults such as that, you make your argument seem weak and that often will make people question your character instead of theirs. Using ad hominems tends to have the opposite effect of what is expected. So letâs argue the proper way, using facts and evidence. Though, âyo mamaâ is valid evidence in any argument, why donât we use evidence that is specific to the argument weâre making.

âTo Kill a Mockingbirdâ is a book that talks about a small town in the southern United States where a young girl named Scout Finch lives with her brother Jem and their father, Atticus. The story mainly focuses on Atticus defending a black man, Tom Robinson, who is wrongly accused of a crime he didnât commit. Through Scoutâs eyes, we see how people in the town react to the trial and how unfair racism can be. The book teaches us about empathy, standing up for whatâs right, and seeing the world from different perspectives. Itâs a book that everyone should read and the fact it is being censored from schools is outrageous. Our society is trying to censor history but in order to not relive it we must learn about it. Itâs like what Voltaire said. âHistory never repeats itself but man always doesâ and by censoring what children learn in schools, this problem occurs.

@finneass That book is being censored? Not in my part of America, and Iâd arguably say itâs an incredible book that can really open your eyes and understand conflicting perspectives and what the morality was like back then towards African-Americans.

I believe the right of free speech is important, but I also believe that comes the idea that you need to be tactful about what you say, and say things in a kind manner. Because when you donât you hurt peoples feelings and then âfree speechâ turns into bullying and harassment.
