Personal thoughts and remarks on Robert Schumann orchestral works
-
Schumann’s symphonies and orchestral works are underrated masterpieces of melodies and imaginative storytelling.
Sure the orchestration is “mediocre” as some say, though I think the beauty in the melodies more than enough suffice to be a refreshment for a tired one’s soul. Give a few listens with an open ear, and you will find that each phrase and melody strives to express the same tragic, dark, sad, and joyful musical dialogues of the Romantic era.
As I also have with his friend Brahms, I have fully come to appreciate Schumann’s works in entirety, and I hope new listeners will enjoy the same journey with all his repertoire.
