Why like that though? An NIC (network interface card) registers the device to the local DHCP server to acquire a local address. One popular such address is 192.168.0.0 with a subnet masks referenced with 255.255.255.255 as to essentially ensure that the IPv4 protocol is used efficiently. Once the local DHCP server has registered with the device, a lease time is assigned, and access to the gateway are granted. Web queries are then made to the DNS server of default or choice and then resolved with the appropriate AAAA, A, etc. records (via the gateway). Depending on the device, TCP, TLS, or UDP protocols are used depending on the data being transferred. Furthermore, data packets are then broken depending on the protocol being used. And of course, all the traffic runs through the gateway.
Tl/DR: An NIC (network interface card) is the component that connects your device to the internet.
