    • The Recent MPP Switcharoo Situation

      Intro

Recently, you might have seen some changes on the site. Most of you are upset and confused with the recent decisions from Multiplayer Piano. This post is meant to clear up all information concerning what happened between Multiplayer Piano and MPPClone/MultiplayerPiano.net, what happened to MPPClone’s original domain, and the differences between the two groups.

Just to be very clear, Multiplayer Piano and MPPClone are two separate things and always have been.

      Multiplayer Piano

Multiplayer Piano, created in February 2012 by our dear friend Brandon, was sold sometime around October 2020. I won’t get into detail why it was sold, as that’s personal to Brandon, but the person who bought it is someone who we’ve been referring to as “jacored”, simply because that was their username on Discord before it was changed to “Multiplayer Piano”.

      MPPClone/MultiplayerPiano.net

MPPClone (now MultiplayerPiano.net) was created around August 2020 by the one and only LapisHusky. It is now partially owned by various people, notably DexterHaxxor. The original domain for the site (mppclone.com) was taken down by Lapis due to the Cease & Desist message posted by Noah Richardson, who is supposedly an attorney representing Multiplayer Piano. Lapis wants to avoid all potential situations where he or any of MPPClone’s admin team may be taken to court, so he took the domain for MPPClone down. The admin team of MPPClone then rebranded the entire site as MultiplayerPiano.net since they already owned the domain. Lapis has also taken his other clone, mpp.lapishusky.dev down just in case. This is why the only official site that works is multiplayerpiano.net.

      Why the Ads Exist

After Multiplayer Piano was sold to the new owner, changes were made to the site that not everyone was happy with. The site went down for a few weeks, and when it came back up, it wasn’t looking too good. After that point, the site has had ads and unwanted tracking scripts and elements embedded in the frontend’s HTML page.

Why the Original Site Connects to MPPClone Instead

Many users were upset with these changes, and some went as far as to spam the site until it the original server was taken down and the site’s files were changed to connect to MPPClone’s server instead. This is how the site would stay until September 2023, when MPPClone’s admin team bought the multiplayerpiano.net domain and started redirecting people from the .com domain to the .net domain.

Why the Original Site Sucks Now

Shortly after the domain switcheroo, in October 2023, Multiplayer Piano made changes to their site to no longer mirror MPPClone, and instead the original server was brought back online with some outright terrible changes:

      • Inability to say “mpp”, “multiplayer piano”, or “clone” in chat without your message being replaced
      • Setting your name to include the words “Qhy” or “mppclone” instantly bans you (rude to bot developers, Anonygold especially)
      • The server is hosted with Hetzner, a server host notorious for being slow
      • It is missing all of the changes from MPPClone (to be fair, this would be hard for them to implement as it’s been years since the site was last online and MPPClone changed a lot in that time)
      • The old vulnerabilities still exist (this allows people to connect many fake users to the site)

What We’ve Done to Mitigate the Problem

MPPClone’s domain will be down for the foreseeable future. Until the multiplayerpiano.net domain was proven to be working, I had setup my own mirror of the site, mppclone.hri7566.info. To all the users that ended up using this site, you’re welcome. If you encounter any issues with this subdomain, please let me know. People have also been using better.mppclone.me as another alternative.

Why MPPClone May Not Be In Trouble

MPPClone is based on the version of Multiplayer Piano before it was sold to the new owner. That code is licensed under the GPLv3 open source license, which means that MPPClone can freely use the code for its frontend as long as it follows some simple rules. You can find this code here and a mirror of it here.

If you have any additional sites you want to add to this list, I am more than willing to edit the post and add them. I have also listed the owners of these sites, so in case you find issues with them, you can reach out to the owner(s) of the site.

    • Multiplayer Piano is Unhealthy

      Preface

This post is meant to describe multiple arguments that Multiplayer Piano is currently in an unhealthy state. This post is entirely influenced by my own thoughts. This

      Multiplayer Piano is Unhealthy

Multiplayer Piano, as intended by its creator, Brandon Lockaby, was created under the intentions to bring musically talented people and brave listeners together. The site, as it was in 2017, was a place full of charming individuals who were musically and scientifically talented. Apart from those who wanted to spam the site, everyone else was happy and mostly over the age of 13. Now, it’s full of confused script kiddie children, young teens who can’t help but engage in role-play, and children under the age of 13 who are ruling entire sub-community monarchies that all create a toxic space on Multiplayer Piano.

First of all, there are too many young teens who utilize the site’s bot policy incorrectly. There are bots that were given names similar to existing bots, such as “Qhu” and “Qheta”. Then, there are non-programmer normies who do things like this constantly:
      2fad447d-eb86-461c-91b0-fc0eba16b962-image.png
      de0b7dd8-4838-4a45-bedd-fc0caa7805d0-image.png
On top of this, unidentified individuals have also started spamming the n-word across every channel. Some people may be able to deal with this, but personally, I don’t feel like the site is a place of comfort anymore.

Second of all, Multiplayer Piano’s chat feature was not intended to be the main feature. Nowadays, a very small sliver of the community can actually play piano. Instead, young adults and children tend to engage in made up stories. These children are fine and all, but personally, I really don’t think it belongs on a site called “Multiplayer Piano.” A very nice person created a room called “The Roleplay Room,” and one of the focus points was to keep role-playing out of other rooms. However, to this day, there are still people who non-purposefully flood other rooms with role-play activities that have other purposes, such as bot development and playing the piano. On top of all of this, despite the site’s rules, there are still a humongous amount of young teens and children engaging in erotic situations.
      24996235-f780-427b-9fc5-9496deb37be3-image.png
Though this provided situation is not totally erotic, it can easily get out of hand. This type of behavior on the site is entirely disallowed and looked down upon.

Finally, there are a plethora of examples that show young adults or children being entirely in charge of other users. There is an individual who is usually on the site daily who goes by the name “Misty.” A lot of allegations have come out about them recently, and I would like to quickly disclaim, once again, that this post is not meant to harass anyone. Misty has been in charge of “The Roleplay Room” for roughly a year. As reported by most of the community, Misty is supposedly 13 years old. Misty is able to ban users from “The Roleplay Room”, whether they have a reason to or not. It is almost entirely in their hands, apart from the site owner, who is currently denying any engagement in this situation. They have a cult following consisting of other young teens. In recent times, they have grown akin to removing anyone from the room without reason. Supposedly, they even created a bot program with explicit commands.

Ultimately, Multiplayer Piano is crowded with young rulers, improper programmers, and people who use the chat as a reason to play make-believe. The site has grown desperately unhealthy in recent years and the people who used to love it have fled because of these major issues. There is no way this site will last into the 2030s as it is currently.
