    untitled rn but:

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the embodiment of Starhawk’s words: “Where there’s fear, there is power.” One seeds this in the plot of Golding’s Lord of the Flies when Jack uses the power of fear to overturn Ralph, eventually succeeding. Fear shows power through Jacks and his use of body language, actions and threats.

For example, Jack invokes fear by using domineer body languag. After Ralph blows the conch, a group walks up to Ralph and his group, and “The boy[Jack] who controlled them was dressed in the same way, though his cap badge was golden… The boy himself[Jack] came forward, vaulted on to the platform with his cloak flying, and peered into what to him was almost complete darkness (Golding 24).” This is a clear illustration of the condescending manner in which Jack has. This demonstrates a domineer attitude towards other people, which would invoke fear and submissive actions. Similarly, whilst walking with Ralph, Jack leaned on a rock and it “moved with a grating sound (36).” From this, readers can generalize Jack’s larger size, showing he is stronger than the other boys on the island, which would invoke caution in anyone. In addition, we also see Jacck’s strong build when he "stood there, streaming with sweat, streaked with brown earth, stained by the vicissitudes of a day’s hunting (68)."This also shows us Jacks athletic build, which can come off in a very intimidating manner. From this, readers can gather that Jack’s body language invokes fear, causing him to take advantage of this in order to take advantage of the other boys.

On another hand, Jack invokes this same ear through actions terrorizing his peers on this island. Readers clearly see

Life is just boring at this point for me like I use to have so many friends until I moved. When I moved I was so sad because I left all my friends behind. At my new school it kinda sucks that everyone here is rude and disrespectful. I hate it here. I love the city but the people at my school are just fake and stuck up. I wish I could just run away.

She walks to school with the lunch
    She packed
    Nobody knows what she’s
    Holdin’ back
    Wearin’ the same dress
    She wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen
    And lace
    The teacher wonders but she
    Doesn’t ask
It’s hard to see the pain
    Behind the mask
    Bearing the burden
    Of a secret storm
    Sometimes she wishes she was
    Never born
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In her world that she can rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where
    She’s loved
    Concrete angel
    Somebody cries in the middle
    Of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn
    Out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands
    Of fate
    When morning comes
    It’ll be too late
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In her world that she can rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where
    She’s loved
    Concrete angel
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In her world that she can rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where
    She’s loved
    Concrete angel

I always thought our relationship was cool
You played the role of having sense
    I always played the fool
    Now something’s different
I don’t know the reason why
    Whenever we separate
    I almost want to cry
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
And when I come home late you don’t complain or call
So as a consequence I don’t go out at all
    My friends are frightened
They don’t know what’s going on
They think you put a spell on me
And now my mind is gone
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
Love’s not so bad they say
But you never know where love is gonna go
    Does anybody really know?
    I’m standing at the altar
As they play the wedding march
I’m in a black tuxedo with my collar full of starch
She looks as lovely as she’s ever gonna get
I wake up from this nightmare in a pool of sweat
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
    What you gonna do
What you gonna do when it comes and gets you?
