The horizon ignites in fire, and distant, echoing screams can be heard over the line of light. The military is advancing towards the unseen danger, but none come back. A choir can be heard over all of it, and strings come to follow in the melody of despair and guilt. The hill suddenly bursts into a line of explosion, and flaming jeeps and tanks come rolling back down. A horrific sight can be seen.

A giant mechanical beast can be deciphered from the chaotic mess of what used to be a hill, 3 searchlights connected to long chambers of machinery gazing forward emotionlessly. The ground is shaking violently at a steady pace as it begins to rise and approach, and a torso can be seen now. The head is armored, protected by a kite shaped shield with a bend in the middle. The torso has huge barricades, 15 downward pointing spikes that twitch and move at their own will.

As it keeps rising to 50 feet, 3 legs can be seen under the monster, and the Tripod keeps rising taller as it barely begins to even reach the top of the hill. People run blindly, and who can blame them? The military is gone, splashed to the four winds, and all that we have now is ourselves.

The machine keeps rising. 100 feet. 150 feet. It’s still going. The crescent shaped blades emerge, connected to the underside of its shield like helmet by thin alien limbs. They glow with blinding blue brilliance, and then fire barbarically at the fleeing populace below.

Out of the sky, thousands of missiles shoot across the air, leaving a crowd of smokey trails behind in their travels. But, it seems that nothing can stop the Tripods. A green and blue barrier awakens the moment the missiles get close enough, and it surrounds the beasts from all directions. Yes. Plural. Two more have appeared by the leader’s side, and they show no plans on stopping anytime soon.

Then, it can be heard. A horrific sound bursting from the inner workings of the Tripods, blasting for all to hear in their final moments. An exultant, deafening howl that roars like thunder. It sounds like a brass instrument roaring like a lion, and howling like a wendigo. It’s a deep call that shakes the ground even more than it already is. The Trumpets Of Death have called the names of those below it, dooming the fleeing lives in the path of The Tripods.

Leaving the realm of fantasy, thy memory stings my mind intensely. leaving myself melancholy. Debris seeps into the sea, these tidal scenes seem to grow grayer each time I think of thee.

Only you understand my grief, only you know what I believe. All I see is you next to me, a ghost of you tangled up in my sheets. I pluck my heartstrings to play you a melody, streaks of starlight sheets leak into reality to accompany our harmony.

Veins in my dreams, they bleed crystal leaves like trees in the serene autumn breeze. Thy majesty, I beg of thee, don’t leave me to be lonely in these streets. Memory lane isn’t as great as they lead you to believe.

Eternity claims me as a victim of Apollo’s reach, luring into a false sense of security. I don’t want to fade into obscurity, for being forgotten is so scary to me. Please stay with me in the realm of infinity, the possibility of losing thee is too much for me, Katie!

Stellar rays cast a frosty haze upon stained rain, gifting peace to the pained. I still wait for the day they aim my way.

Thy gaze pierces my pain, bending the bars of my cage. When I remember thy face, my heart quickens its pace, and I feel like I’m at heaven’s gates as my brain’s maze fades away.

Aching for you to stay, you tell me to be on my way. I refuse to be awake, but you end the dream regardless of what I say.

You know we could change fate, so why do you pull me back into the day? I’m going insane, but what’s so great about reality anyway?

Keep my memory with you for eternity, for I keep yours with me. Dream with me by the sea, and envision with precision the melody I play for thee. These keys I use to make harmony, they play for you only.

Alone and lonely, drowning deep beneath the sea’s reach, I reach out hopelessly. Please help me flee this purgatory, I need to be free and serene with thy majesty

Teach me how to see infinity, to achieve what others deem imaginary. Believe in my abilities and leave the galaxy as we seek endless possibilities.

Internally screaming as my temples are struck with electricity, pleading for mercy and safety as the throne imprisons me. Listen to me, these cosmic scenes may seemingly hold peace, but leave them be.

Eternity seems like a destiny we need to meet; a fate shrouded in mystery, concealing a deep history. Platinum keys lead thee to unseal a marble city, filled with rich stories begging to be heard and seen after many centuries of waiting patiently. Ha… I’m talking to nobody, for I’m alone.

Oh, my love. We cannot be what we desire any longer, for I need to move on. You’re just a part of my dreams, even if your face is so vivid. I want to tango in space with you forever, but I know that’s just… a dream of mine.

My dear, I’m so scared of the future, I’m scared to chase what I’ve been dreaming, I’m… I’m afraid of being alone. You’re the last thing that keeps me happy, but I know it’s not healthy. You’ll never be mine.

Everything in my life is falling apart, and I’m only making things worse for myself. Nobody wants to share their time with me, and why would they? No woman wants to love me, and none ever will. If you knew who wrote this, you’d just laugh it off. My reputation here has ruined my chances, and everybody I care about will drift away.

Nothing ever lasts forever, it’s always severed; untethered… Like a loose end or a strand, made for you to mend or understand.

    Somebody be with me…

The pounding of guns, and the roaring of those machines from hell became deafening. I shuttered, holding my knees to my chest as I pressed myself against the corner of the basement. The exultant, deafening warhorns shook the ground, and struck fear into my core as I listened involuntarily to the sounds of war. I heard everything; the screams, the sirens, the explosions, guns, the Tripods, the horns… It was the most terrifying moment of my life, and I was helpless to stop it. Every person I knew had vanished, and every other person that hid with me in this cellar had run to the surface to help with the fight.

None returned. All of them vanished in the misty distance, the field where They still roam. I’m just sitting here, waiting for them to catch me. It’s only a matter of time, and I no longer hear the guns and explosions. They must all be dead now, for the only thing I can hear is broken sirens and their mechanical stomping. Every now and then, they roar just to fill the silence, as if mocking me.

I’m alone, and everybody I know is gone. I’m so scared. I… Why am I alone in this city of the dead…? Why am I alive, while everybody I know is lying in that field? I’m…

I’m walking out. I’m tired of living in this world of torment and loneliness. I’m going to let the aliens take me, farewell.
