Forgiveness Step Three
The third step is to do the actual act of forgiving. Which is a very generous act of the heart. Now, forgiving doesn’t actually mean everything can go back to normal. You can forgive someone and move away from them. Because if you feel like you have given that person enough chances to fix their mistakes, and they still haven’t even made any effort / progress in fixing that, it’s okay to move on. It’s okay to save yourself from further pain. If you chose to forgive and move with that person, then good on you. You both should work together past that spot in your lives, and try to make the effort to not hurt anyone again. A common mistake I see in friendships is that they are forgiven, but that person thinks that’s a reset button and they can just go back to being hurtful again. That’s taking advantage of that person’s kindness and using it so they can hurt you again and again. Don’t let that happen. Any time you forgive someone, they should take that as graciously as possible and always do the right thing by trying to fix their error for the future. If you take advantage of someone’s forgiveness, they’ll sooner lose their trust in you, and potentially in others as well.
