Practicing. (Fellow musicians welcome to vent.)
-
I hate practicing. Now, I know thatβs a stupid thing to say. βWhy would you hate practicing? Itβs the thing thatβll help you get better!β Shut up. I hate practicing because of my mom.
My mother is 37 years old. She started singing and playing violin when she was 4. She got into the Iowa All-State Chorus all four years of High School. She is a great musician overall. She is a private music teacher and has her own string quartet. How many people do you know have their own string quartet? Probably hardly any.I hate having to practice in front of her. She nitpicks everything. Why does she have to be like this? I have no idea. I get and understand she wants me to be the best I can, even though I am only a freshman, but this sucks. Nearly every time I practice, I end up in tears because I try. I try, and she gets pissed. I try so god damn hard, but I canβt. I canβt do whatever it is she wants me to do.
-
Maybe she should just shut the fuck up and let different people be different people.
Sorry if itβs an aggressive response. -
@Namira I wish. But sheβs my own mother. And she thinks she has the right to push me past what I can do to make me better.
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 Why cant parents just be proud of their kids for doing good? Itβs about you getting better at your own pace. It only matters that sheβd be proud of you for doing good, and that is more motivation to get better than getting told to fix little things. I get she just wants you to do good like her, but cant she just let you play music happily? Nitpicking literally sucks the fun out of playing music. She might be a good player, but she sounds like an awful music teacher if she literally makes you cry :(
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 I feel bad for you- And namira is right, she actually should shut up because shes too strict, she expects you to be the best, but it needs time . Btw Namira, For me itβs not a Aggressive response
-
@Duchess And what makes it even worse is she teaches other kids, and doesnβt make them cry. She makes me cry.
-
@Duchess YES thatβs what im talking about
-
Nitpicking is never a good idea. It only makes you more discouraged to do said thing and it only makes you more prone to mistakes because the frustration builds up in you, and the fact that you know you canβt mess up makes you mess up. She should learn some manners and learn how to be thankful.
-
@A38 For real dude. Nitpicking can even lead to depression (I think)
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 Thereβs a difference between encouraging your kids to perform their greatest and being a unpleasable jerk who takes things more seriously than they should. You dont have to be the best. Itβs not like your school is expecting more from you than any other student. Your mom just needs to chill. Maybe she stressed to be the best, but who said thatβs what you want. Like Sen said, gotta let different people be different people. Kids are not mini-meβs of parents.
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 i love piano.
I fucking hate practicing violin cause iβm always afraid iβm not good enough or iβm raping someoneβs ears. Mom loves me playing and gets bratty if i donβt.
-
@Enzi FELT.
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 I donβt get it. Why get so pressed at your kid for so little reason? I could maybe understand if she has disorders that cause extreme emotion, but that still isnβt an excuse for basically bullying your kid. Does she have any conditions?
-
@The4thFemC I mean, she had shit parents that were hella mentally abusive, so Iβm pretty sure sheβs got like PTSD, a lil OCD, depression, and weβre pretty sure she has undiagnosed ADHD- And sheβs a fucking insomniac, so she gets no damn sleep-
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0
Iβm slowly getting better but i just
donβt like practicing
I donβt like taking it out, rasining the bow, playing cause im always nervous iβll be heard when i mess up
I always feel safer with my teacher because sheβs always nice and understanding and makes me motivated
Thereβs also an edge
i like playing for a while but once iβm done iβm done. If you still want me to play then iβm gonna be stressed
-
@Enzi no dude, thatβs so real. I love my teachers, theyβre so chill. And practice rooms with no one around are my best friend.
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 Alright, I can get behind that. Has she ever had help or are you and yoir family trying to get her help?
-
@The4thFemC Haha fuck no- weβre broke as hell-
-
Wubbrle the amazing Wubble Yeah, it could. If youβre constantly being told basically what you did wasnt enough and you got to change little things here and there, it kind of makes you feel like the goal posts keep changing. And youβll never be enough, which who wouldnt make someoen sad?
-
@just-a-fkn-reaper-3-0 or like when i go to suzuki camp (one week camp made from my books program creator for piano violin and viol)
i do piano cause i am NOT doing violin
its always so fun to practice with my friends, listen to her play, giggle together, and just have fun
but its different for everybody.
I like practicing alone for violin. then in group class iβm FORCED to play piano AND violin without me being comfortable. Then i get NERVOUS, MESS UP, then people clap even though i know they donβt like it.
