essay version
So, you want to write an essay? Well Lara is here! Isn’t that crazy? Yeah, but you need to write an essay. Maybe for a project? An assignment? A test? I’ll help you out! But this is mainly argumentative, so bare with me. I’ll do an informative one soon.
The first thing you need is a planner. This is important because maybe it is for a grade? Or to generally, help you out with writing your 3-5 paragraph essay. There are 4 parts: the introduction, the body paragraph, the counterclaim, and the conclusion.
- The introduction is where you start off your essay, and to try to get the reader reading.
- The body paragraph is where you state your topic/source. Use the R-A-C-E strategy for this one, it will help!
- The counterclaim is basically the opposite side of your essay. If you chose For, then the counterclaim means Against. Vice-versa.
- The conclusion is basically your ending statement to the essay.
You can find sources on the internet for the essay, or it can be given to you by teacher or district!
Also: Don’t forget to INDENT your paragraphs!!!
Introduction
Now to start off with the introduction, here’s what you need. It is also in order!
- A Hook, to grab the reader’s attention. It can be statistics, your personal story, and a question! Just make sure that it may grab their attention.
- Transition the hook to the topic you will state.
- Say your topic!
- Mention the points you will cover on your essay.
- Say your thesis, the main idea of your essay. (Can be "I go for __ or I go against __ , just wrap the words.)
I’ll do an example, just don’t steal - the topic is about “Does Video-Games have a connection to Real-Life Violence?” (very controversial…)
Many years after video-games were invented, over half of the 50 top-selling video games contain violence, which has one factor between violent video-games and violent media and TV shows, which do not reward players nor take part of that activity. Undeniably, video games cause real-life violence. For actively doing those violent acts, you can get rewarded and during the progression of those rewards will make you more aggressive from before. A real-life case involving the video-game Grand Theft Auto III was documented in Tennessee, where two teenagers participated in a hit-and-run, killing one driver. The games can also get really realistic to the point that the actions will enhance the learning of those behaviors. Simulating shooting guns and hand-to-hand combat in video games can cause real-life violent behavior.
Paragraph(s)
Paragraphs, also known as ⁋s, are where your point(s) are stated! Each paragraph means each point you will cover for your topic! You will need to use the RACE strategy, in which you don’t know, I will state it here!
- R: Restate the question. Wrap “Does video-games have a connection to real-life violence?” to “Video-games do/don’t have a connection to real-life violence…”
- A: Answer the question. Put your answer next to the restated question, it will come out like: “Video-games do/don’t have a connection to real-life violence because (pretend something stated is here)”
- C: Cite the source to support your topic sentence! Add a transition thingy in front of it, like “According to the source, ___ .” You may have to title the source as well!
- E: Explain your source in your own words!
Another example we GOOOOOO-
A real fact is yes, there are connections between real-life violence and video-games containing violence as they both can reward you. For comparison, an assassin gaining money for killing somebody in a video-game as well as immediately shooting a person in the head because of a conflict can happen in real-life as well. From the source Video Games Cause Real-life Violence, “Violent video games reinforce fighting as a means with dealing with conflict by rewarding the use of violent action with increased life force, more weapons, moving on to higher levels, and more.” These rewards can make you more aggressive, altering your mental state. This can escalate to it happening in real-life, causing your life and others at risk of harm.
Counterclaim
The counterclaim is a point from the opposite side of the argument. Basically, you will state something positive in the negative side, but then you go back negative. You will need this counterclaim because there can be a “yes, it is” but then it can go back to a “unfortunately, no it is not always” thing.
Here’s an example if you don’t get it :>
For good measure, video-games can give positive effects on players and their behavior, “as children, especially boys, play video games as a means of managing their emotions,” shown by a peer-reviewed study from the Journal of Adolescent Health. It helps them relax, forget their problems, and helps them get their anger out. Though this seems fine, the violence in the video-games will enhance the learning of those behaviors.
Conclusion
The conclusion is the closing part of your essay, in which you will:
- Restate your thesis (main idea of the essay)
- Summarize the main points of your essay (stated in the paragraphs and introduction)
- And then, bring out a closing statement, where it is a mic-drop.
I don’t have any way to explain, so here’s the example.
In conclusion, there is a finishing statement to the controversy that real-life violence and violent video-games have an undeniable connection. To rewarding a player for shooting a guy in the head, as well as increasing cognitive aggression in children and teenagers, and the realism of the video-game to the point it causes a real-life crime, it can be recommended to not expose children in early age to those violent actions in hope that it will not alter their brain development and mental state for the future - but, to prepare them for the better.
I HOPE MY TUTORIAL HELPS U WRITE YOUR ESSAY!!! It took me a bit and I’m so glad to help if it did C:
