Reclamation of the Q-Slur
-
I’m just gonna go on a tangent, don’t mind me
The q-slur, queer is a reclaimed slur, some people like it and use it to identify, some people don’t like it and believe its always been a slur, I am of the second opinion. People claim that its simply a good word that got turned bad, but looking back, its always been a bad word, queer as a definition means strange, or odd. So, mini rant don’t mind me, but I don’t think it should be used, personally.
-
@YLDG Okay, not to disagree but for me thats why I call myself queer, I like the fact that it meanrs to be strange and thats why some people use it. I don’t think its neccessarily a slur, i just think it depends on the person. This is a good point tho

@YLDG Well, “queer” was adopted as a word to describe someone obviously different, or “odd,” as you said. That’s been more of an embraced term recently used for gays to express their personality. Example, a netflix original tv series, “Queer Eye.” I don’t think that show is using it in a slur-way. If you think about it, everything can be made into a slur. I wouldn’t look past what it is, because the more you look into things, everything’s going to be made into a slur in the end lol. Though, if you get offended for being called different, can’t stop you.
-
Duchess I don’t like the fact that people are using it without understanding its history or knowing what it used to mean, I don’t really get offended by it, I just am tired of people using it without getting the meaning and history, especially with this word, considering its a heavy topic.
-
me personally, I don’t think queer is necessarily a slur in any way shape or form.
-
@YLDG People call eachother “dumb,” but do they know it was originally what people called deaf people? Maybe they do know this, but are they really appreciating deaf people by calling others “dumb”?
-
Duchess Actually, dumb was meant to mean they can’t speak
-
-
@Duncan-Away That’s what I meant o. o Deaf kind of had me thinking can’t speak. So, yeah, you’re right, but that’s what I was thinking.
-
Duchess That would be mute
-
@YLDG Mute, deaf, yeah, kind of had them both as the same thing in my mind. I know they’re different. But, you get what I mean.
-
@YLDG Still, Definition aside, my point was that people call eachother dumb, but do they really mean they can’t speak? That’s the point I was trying to make.
-
@YLDG
This just changed everything I ever knew, when I first like, learned about it? I was told its another word for LGBTQIA+
