yesterday wasnt as bad as i thought itd be

my boyfriends family doesnt exactly love the fact that im not a blonde white girl with blue or green eyes, so when they met me the first time they were kinda… rude? i had my afro out at the time, they were like “why is your hair so messy? you need a relaxer” type shit. dont like the fact that im brownskinned either, one of his aunts brought me a skin lightening pill one time. he hates his family and the way they act, he wants to cut them off when hes older but he cant exactly do that rn considering hes 16. well, heres the catch. i went over to his house yesterday because he asked me to. and it actually wasnt bad.his family side-eyed me but no one made like outrageous racist jokes like they’ve done in previous times. i mean i get it i guess, my family doesnt love that im dating him, but theyre not outrageously racist to him either. either way, once we graduate they wont be an issue so im not really worried about it since thats the only real “issue” we have and its not even caused by us, its just the fact that racism sucks and his family is heavily religious, im not, etc.

but im glad that yesterday they didnt bother me, still werent nice (besides his parents, his parents love me more than him <-- carters words not mine) but i think its progress ig
