1) Knowing your sleep cycle.
A common way people see sleep is like filling up an energy tank. And when you fill up that tank, you’ll finally have all the rest you need. So people think if you sleep in the most you can, or sleep here and there, eventually you’ll “catch up on your sleep.” That’s why a lot of people think that if they go to bed as early as possible, they’ll get enough sleep for the next day. The key to a goodnight’s sleep is not getting the MOST sleep, but rather knowing when your body is properly finished with it’s sleep cycle. That is why some people report sleeping better on 6 hours of sleep rather 8. I would do extra research on this so you can figure out your sleep cycle as only you can determine that information about yourself.2) Dont wait for yourself to “feel tired.”
If you’re in school, you should adapt a schedule tailored to when you have to wake up, especially if it’s a sharp time. Let yourself sit in bed for a while. No distractions. Eventually with the lack of stimulation, you’ll feel tired and fall asleep. Why do you think people feel tired when they’re bored lol? The brain releases melatonin at night because it’s stimulated by the darkness. If you pull out your phone to entertain yourself until you feel tired, you’re not only tricking your brain to stay awake with the phone light, but it’s also being stimulated by whatever you’re doing. Something I like to do if I’m looking to feel tired fast is doing some exercises with the light off. It tires me out, makes me want to hop in bed, and after my body’s temperature goes down, it makes my body want to sleep. Works for me every time lol.3) Having the proper diet.
Eating too much unhealthy food, or even eating certain foods before bed can effect your sleep quality. Sugary desserts or treats spike your blood sugar which stimulates the brain – causing you to struggle to sleep. Do not drink caffeine before bed. Even drinking a caffeinated beverage 6 hours before bed can affect your sleep. If you want caffeine, make sure it’s early enough in the day.Bonus info:
Dreaming does NOT equal deep sleep. In fact, it’s the opposite. Sure, dreaming might make you feel like you’re in a deep state, but it is when you’re brain is most active, aka, most awake. So dont be fooled when you have 1-2 dreams and think you had a “good night sleep.” -
Information regarding caffeine:
I dont recommend drinking caffeine as soon as you wake up (common mistake people make) because caffeine doesnt make you not sleepy, it just numbs your central nervous system (your “sleepy sensor” lol). If you want caffeine, wait at least 1-2 hours after waking up so you can let your body naturally wake up on it’s own without the outside chemical stimulant. Do some walking as soon as you wake up. Literally get the blood flowin’ lool
