Have bots ruined mpp?
-
please be honest, iβm arguing with my friends rn
-
Juniper I havenβt really been on MPP in a while, only small visits to see how things are doing. But itβs sort of a yes and no, because obviously, there were bots before, but they were often in just the big lobbies (the main lobby you get loaded into automatically, TRR, etc.). Iβve noticed that they seem to be spreading, though. (At least from what Iβve seen.)
I feel like they sometimes just clutter up the site, because thereβs so many of them, but I also think that they havenβt really βruinedβ MPP, just because in my experience with them, which albeit isnβt much, they donβt seem to impede upon the function of the site. -
Basically, it really depends on what they mean by βruined.β

-
Juniper ah, okay. Can you elaborate? Like how/why wonβt they talk to each other? (I know you said because of a bot, but what does the bot do to prevent that?)

mpp was meant to be a website for piano playingβ’β’β’duetsβ’β’β’stuff like that, not a bot and social/roleplay nest
bots ruined mpp but so did roleplayers -
tea.and.crumpets i agree
-
Juniper I might be biased, but I donβt think anything has ruined MPP. Itβs still going strong after all this time in many ways. I still see people playing piano. I think thatβs the main thing. The bots donβt really impede that in my opinion. While MPP may never have been intended for bots, itβs not necessarily a bad thing that it expanded beyond that original scope. I think .net has improved things by giving people the option to hide bots altogether.

slowstone72 these days there are more bots than ppl-
-
β₯Gay_Bastardβ₯ Thatβs a fair point, but I think it reflects the state of the site as a whole rather than being solely about bots. There are less people these days for a variety of reasons outside of bots. Many users still actively play piano or chat. It really depends on how the bots are used. With the option to hide bots entirely, itβs still possible to bring the focus back to people and music for those who prefer that.
As a community-run site, I think itβs doing pretty well overall.

slowstone72 Mhm.

Juniper hm
it honestly depends what you mean
because i do think there are a ton of useless bots that just exist to spam the piano and crash the site, but there are some useful bots. Dev room is FULL of bots. like- over fourteen of them i think.
