somnium to clarify what Blake is saying, FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome)/FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) is what may occur when an embryo/fetus is exposed to alcohol during gestation.
So yes, if a mother drinks excessive amounts of alcohol while pregnant, there is a chance that the child will be born with deformities and/or learning disabilities due to FAS and the exposure to alcohol.
These deformities may include physical ones (facial features, growth deficiencies, and problems with the CNS, or central nervous system), cognitive and behavioral issues (may experience difficulties with learning, memory, attention span, and communication), and developmental delays (both physical and mental issues combined).
