RE: guess what
Toast™ Game Description
“There is something out there, hiding amidst the thick fog. Something ominous, capable of swirling all-consuming whirlpools and raising gigantic waves on a whim… The tale of Duskgloom Sea is true, you see, and its dark waters will reach every grain of sugar in your dough and silence your last scream…” It will be wise to avoid these treacherous waves—for their ruler can toss and wreck even the mightiest of ships as if they were mere toys. It is said that kind-hearted mermaids once served as the ocean’s caregivers and protectors, but here in the Duskgloom Sea, you will find only dark grudge(sic). Nobody knows the reason behind Black Pearl Cookie’s century-old wrath, but with her on the underwater throne of wreckage, the Duskgloom Sea has gained its notoriety as the abyssal graveyard. She does not seek affection nor understanding, but then what is it that Black Pearl Cookie is looking for? What can pacify her cries of desperation?Soulstone Description

Character Inspiration
Black Pearl Cookie’s name may be inspired by the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’s titular ship, the Black Pearl. Remnants of the Black Pearl are cursed to be undead, possibly alluding to Head Icon Candy Diver Cookie’s appearance. Furthermore, Black Pearl Cookie’s powers seem to be based on Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, who is also able to upsize their appearance as well as summon maelstroms and lightning.Explore the Black Pearl Islands visual 14
Legend of the Duskgloom Sea cutscene artBlack Pearl Cookie may also draw inspiration from Ursula the sea witch from The Little Mermaid (1989). In the Legend of the Duskgloom Sea Story, Black Pearl Cookie mentions a “silly, naïve child who wanted to become a Cookie”, likely referring to Head Icon Sorbet Shark Cookie and implying that she is responsible for their ability to transform. In the film, Ursula gives Ariel a pair of legs in exchange for her voice, similarly to how Sorbet Shark Cookie is unable to speak coherently while in Cookie form. Her spontaneous extreme growth as a result of her transformation and rage is similar to Ursula doing the same with the power of Triton’s trident.
Black Pearl Cookie also bears resemblance to the sirens of Greek mythology. While sirens have been depicted in numerous ways, they are most widely known as mermaids capable of luring sailors to their deaths with their voice and songs. She also bears some resemblance to Umibōzu, a yōkai from Japanese folklore that takes the form of a giant black humanoid whose appearance at sea turns a calm ocean into a furious shipwrecking storm.
As a whole, the rumors of curses and ghosts surrounding the Duskgloom Sea may be a reference to the urban legend of the Bermuda Triangle, where numerous ships and planes are thought to have vanished out at sea.
Appearance
Black pearl gacha 2 idle
In her standard Cookie size, Black Pearl Cookie is an average-height and thin-yet-curvy mer-Cookie, though she scales up to be multiple stories tall in her true form. The mermaid has sickly light grey-blue dough and inky, full eyelashes with matching reflective eyeshadow. Her pupils are menacing black slits and her eye color is a powder blue. She wears a sadistic white smile and is usually seen putting her hand coyly near her mouth. As a sea-dweller, she has ear-like slate blue fins on either side of her head, being webbed with three points each. Black Pearl Cookie’s hair is a pearly white and takes a curly style that resembles sea foam. She has middle-parted bangs which curl upwards and reveal the caliginous pearl on her forehead. Instead of legs, she has a glittering fish tail in an onyx and stone blue gradient. The Duskgloom Sovereign’s torso sports an obsidian, skintight bustier with a large, white scallop shell at her chest. On her arms are black opera gloves with off-shooting bat wing embellishments, and about her hips sits a tulle pannier skirt that shines in the light and resembles the bell of a jellyfish. Being the ruler of her domain, she wears a webbed black crown atop of her head with five sharp spikes.
Black Pearl Cookie’s main implement is a vicious Aegean-blue trident. One of its prongs extends and curves upwards like a fish hook, and it is fashioned with gleaming obsidian insets on its face and the end of its shaft.
Personality
Before she became the monster she is now, Black Pearl Cookie once was a kind Gem Mermaid under the name of Head Icon White Pearl Cookie who harbored insecurities over her lack of special powers compared to her sisters. Still, it didn’t stop her from doing the right thing as she saved the life of Lord Oyster, the young heir of House Oyster, and entrusted him with her pearl to protect him. When she saw how Land Cookies attacked her home, how Lord Oyster sold her pearl after she had given it to him for safekeeping (despite his efforts to get it back), and the apparent death of her closest friend and servant to the Gem Mermaids, Head Icon Frilled Jellyfish Cookie, she was both devastated and hurt to the point that she transformed into something monstrous. She vowed to obliterate anyone or anything that would prevent her from achieving her desire of solitude in a sea where she could hear nothing but the currents, without any ship to disturb her. What was once her kindness and innocence was twisted into wrath and hatred for all the Cookies who dwelt on land.
Trivia
Black pearl loading screen
Black Pearl Cookie’s loading screen featuring the Silent, Head Icon Captain Caviar Cookie’s shipBlack Pearl Cookie is the second Legendary Cookie made exclusively for Cookie Run: Kingdom, the first being Head Icon Frost Queen Cookie.
According to her loading screen trivia, “Old sailors say that when a mermaid loses her pearl, she will be cursed to descend into the lightless abyss.” Another loading screen active during the Legend of the Duskgloom Sea update states, “Be cautious navigating the Duskgloom Sea: these treacherous depths are more than eager to lure another careless captain…”
Black Pearl Cookie’s Appearing Cookies section in A Mermaid’s Tale reads as such:
Consumed by wrath and hatred, she no longer remembers her dreams and wishes from when she was young.
The Duskgloom Sea became part of Black Pearl Cookie the moment she consumed the Sea Fairy Tear.
Black Pearl Cookie is all alone in the Duskgloom Sea, but she has never felt lonely, for she feels her power surging within.
It would seem like Black Pearl Cookie has lost her family, her pearl, and her love, but perhaps the Head Icon Sea knows something we don’t know.
She sometimes finds herself talking to the Sea during the lunar eclipse, but she has never been answered.
In her lobby, Black Pearl Cookie will very occasionally suddenly swim into a Cookie-width black whirlpool appearing on the floor below her, making her disappear from the screen. The water out the window turns darker, nearly black, then, her gargantuan “true form” bolts across just outside the window, completely obfuscating anything previously seen outside as she swiftly swims past in a fraction of a second, with only part of her body able to be seen at any one moment. As the water outside turns back to normal, she returns from the black whirlpool as her normal self, settling and resuming her idle animation.
This is the first instance of a Cookie having a special animation on the Cookie info screen other than their touch animation.
This, however, is not available in any of her Legendary Costumes.
Black Pearl Cookie is currently the only Legendary Cookie to not be considered one of the Elemental Cookies. Consequently, she does not appear as one of the guardians in the Wind, Vanquisher of Darkness Story.
Black Pearl Cookie was at the time of her release the only Legendary Cookie to not release alongside a Cookie Decor of her own. Her Cookie Decor, Phantom of the Depths, released over two months after her initial addition in the second part of the Braver Together! update (v3.9). Head Icon Fire Spirit Cookie was later released without a Cookie Decor in the The Flame Awakens update (v6.3).
It implied in The Legend of the Duskgloom Sea Story that Black Pearl Cookie is responsible for giving Head Icon Sorbet Shark Cookie their Cookie form.[2] This was later confirmed in her interaction with Sorbet Shark Cookie, where she references taking their voice in exchange for them being able to live on land.
Black Pearl Cookie is the only Cookie so far to reach the top 3 in two different Cookie of the Year polls.
Occasionally, Black Pearl Cookie and The Legend of the Duskgloom Sea update itself are referred to as “bingo” in the game’s files.
Black Pearl Cookie’s English voice actress, Erica Mendez, also provides the voice of Head Icon White Lily Cookie.
Black Pearl Cookie’s Taiwanese voice actress, Long Xianhui, also provides the voice of Head Icon Mala Sauce Cookie. -
guess what
I love Black Pearl Cookie so much because she embodies the perfect synthesis of elegance, tragedy, power, and mystery—qualities that resonate deeply with something primal and poetic inside me. There’s something endlessly captivating about a character who isn’t just strong, but beautifully strong—who wields her authority not through cruelty or arrogance, but through a cold, unshakable calm born of centuries of solitude beneath the abyss. Her design is breathtakingly regal, like an empress of a drowned kingdom. Her flowing black-and-silver gown mirrors the tides of the deep sea, and her glowing eyes hold an ocean’s worth of sorrow. Every detail—from her voice to her animations—feels crafted to reflect the sorrow and majesty of someone burdened by eternal memory and myth.
Black Pearl Cookie is not just another powerful Cookie—she is a legend. The idea that she was once known as the Sea Fairy’s friend, only to be cursed and transformed into something feared, evokes the ancient storytelling archetype of the fallen angel or the betrayed deity. She is a victim of fate, and yet, she refuses to be broken by it. Her strength is forged from pain, and yet she stands tall, commanding the sea itself with grace and authority. This duality—her role as both a tragic figure and a commanding force—makes her incredibly compelling. She is the perfect blend of sympathetic and terrifying, reminding us that even those we fear may have once simply longed to be loved.
Her voice lines and quotes always hint at something deeper: a longing for a time when she was whole, a trace of bitterness toward those who abandoned her, and a pride she refuses to let go of. She isn’t just written to be cool; she’s written with depth. There’s a poetry to her sorrow, like the sea herself—vast, unknowable, and beautifully deadly. That kind of narrative complexity is rare, and I find myself drawn to her not just as a character in a game, but as a symbol of endurance, of isolation, of how even something broken can still be majestic.
On top of that, her gameplay is exhilarating—her skill, “Duskgloom’s Sovereign,” is visually stunning and impactful, commanding a storm with such overwhelming force that it truly feels like you’re unleashing a god of the deep on your enemies. The combination of the black whirlpool and the piercing trident feels like a declaration: you will respect the sea. When she appears on the battlefield, the entire tone shifts. She doesn’t just join the fight—she owns it.
And maybe, deep down, I love her so much because she reflects something I wish to be. She is lonely but proud, betrayed but unyielding, feared but respected. She carries her pain with dignity and never begs for pity. In her, I see the part of myself that feels like an outcast, that longs to be understood but knows it may never happen—and instead of crumbling, she becomes divine. Loving Black Pearl Cookie is loving the part of ourselves that dares to find beauty in grief, strength in sorrow, and power in being unapologetically who we are—even if the world calls us monsters.
