any advice to stop nail picking/biting??

I have been trying really hard to stop biting my nails for a while, and I just can’t. I think it might be related to like an ND sensory thing, idk-

However, I’ve tried press-on/glue-on nails, and they would work, if I didn’t play violin. I have also tried band-aids, tape (that fucking SUCKED. -10994299435/10 never again) and finger cots (also a -122598643/10. They made my fingers sweaty, and I couldn’t feel what I was doing. Makes it very hard to play violin.) I also tried the anti-nail biting polish as a kid, and that never worked. Besides, I think it expired pretty quickly for some reason.

I need to stop. I haven’t gotten infections or bled, but I really need to work on it, because any time I look at my hands, I can only see how ugly my nails look, and I just think my hands look ugly because of it. :/

Any advice would be helpful. I want to try and see if I can get a shorter pair of glue-on nails that would be like the length of a natural nail and see if that helps, but I really don’t have the time rn. It will have to be later.

Oh, I’ve also tried fidget rings, but most of them are so chunky that they make me feel my hands and then it’s like- akjsdgafah- skin- muscles- bones- I can feel my bones- slfahggr

yeah. And then the dainty fidget spinner rings always break so easily bc they’re so small.

@Your-Local-Reaper I bite my nails In stress. But I have some advice that I somewhat found on the Internet that could probably help from biting you nails. Coating In a bad taste, So when you feel like biting your nails, and you do. You’ll taste smth bad, Which will Kinda(?) Make you stop biting your nails (Somewhat) Or If you ever feel like biting your nails, try playing with a stress ball or silly putty instead. Or play with something that can keep your hands occupied so you don’t bite your nails, Or MAYBE cut your nails short, If there’s not enough nail to grab with your teeth, it won’t feel as satisfying when you give biting a try. I’m not sure-

2. unfortunately, I need my hands a lot, but when I’m not using them, I’m probably reading to take notes for school.

I know you said you tried press ons, but do even the really short ones not work? And does nail polish help or no? Sorry if my input doesn’t do much, but js tryna come up with something if it might help

zofya I’ve heard about them, but when you’ve been doing it for nearly 10 years, and you have likely anxiety or are ND, it’s hard to break.

Alyx💞 Well, I feel like short ones would work, if they were just the length of a short natural nail. However, I can’t wear ones that go past my fingertips because I play violin, and it would royally fuck up my posture/playing ability.
I just have to go get short ones if I want to wear them consistently, and I would have to glue them, because the sticky tabs don’t do shit lmaooo
